Simon Says Stamp Mixed Media Gnome

Mixed Media Gnome

#ssswchallenge
What can I say? I love this little gnome die from Simon Says Stamp and I'm not ready to put him away just yet, so here's another one with a Valentine balloon and a crumbly sugar background! (Not really sugar, but it looks pretty darn close!)
This sugary background is actually based upon this weeks Wednesday Challenge theme "Use A Stencil!" And the secret behind that sugary background (besides that fantastic Tim Holtz Honeycomb Stencil) is a bit of grit paste mixed with alcohol ink and some extra fine holographic glitter. That's it! So simple. Spread the grit past though the stencil, drop some alcohol ink into it; continue to mix and spread. Top with some glitter and you're done! A heat gun helped it to mush it all together and flake it in some parts. Like how I threw in those highly technical terms! Lol!
The balloon has to be my favorite part about this card and it's actually puffy! It's made with two pieces of paper and a filling of foam adhered with one of those Simon Says Stamp Action Wobbles! And wobble it does!!!!! The cute little "love" circle, I'm excited to say, is from the new Tim Holtz "Circle Words Christmas" dies!  I always love it when a set is so versatile that it can be used throughout the year! Dont you?!! Some glossy embossing powder and a tattered ribbon inside finished it off. Tattered ribbons always remind me of my friend Stacy Hutchinson at Tattered Nest Designs. If you ever want to see some awesomely tattered things she's definitely the Queen!

And there you have it; a mixed media gnome inspired by my love for all things shiny, sparkly, and with "the feels" (texture!)
***The little Gnomes featured in this post will actually be placed into my Etsy shop. They have done so well locally that I wanted to be able to share them with all of you! The shop name is 216 Alchemy Lane and it will be a collection of handmade items from my son and I. Those of you who have met him, already know that he is quite an artist himself and definitely one we will all be watching out for in the future! We hope to add more things weekly and this mother/son team thank you so much for looking!

Until next time....thank you for taking a peek at this little guy and I hope it simplifies the use of grit paste and alcohol inks and inspires you to share your art with the World as well.

  1. another awesome make! Love that balloon and the sugary background. Ha! I just broke out my extra fine holographic glitter powder, too. That project won't go live until 1/23/2020, but that stuff will burn your eyes out if you stare at it too long! Thanks for the sugar recipe!
