Tropical Halloween Card

"Tropical State of Mind"

(My entry for the "Spooky" Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!)

This card makes me smile each time I see it! Yes! Those of you who know me, know that I love color, I love the tropics, and never see any reason to reserve these elements for a particular season. In fact, I love going against the grain and creating unexpected surprises; always using past stamps and dies combined with a few of my favorite new releases.
Here you see the wonderful "Mr. Bones" just can't shake being in a "Tropical State of Mind." He, like me, will always be in a "Tropical State of Mind!" The escaping ghosts are even covered in plumerias from the Tim Holtz "Lost and Found" paper pack. This is also where I found the colorful paper used for the Hibiscus flowers and leaves! How gorgeous are those?!! (For added gloss, I embossed the entire flower with clear embossing powder.  This makes the flowers a little more sturdy.)

This "Tropical" Sizzix Die Set by Tim Holtz is one of my favorites and as you can see, it can be used year round in so many different combinations with the newer sets! The background of this card is a Sizzix 3D embossing folder called "Tropical Leaves" by designer Courtney Chilson. I loved using Distress Oxides to color and shade those leaves! That little spider you see hanging from the huge web (Sizzix Alterations collection by Tim Holtz) is actually from the new Halloween Release "Frightful Things." And while the large web I used is discontinued, the new release includes a web just as gorgeous that includes this magical little spider and even cuts the piece of web he hangs from! Again, never think that you can't combine old with the new. And for whatever is discontinued, Tim always seems to have another alternate die or stamp that takes its place beautifully!

I hope you enjoyed this card and the idea behind the design as much as I enjoyed creating it. Always remember, that our creative minds offer us the opportunity everyday to share our thoughts and views through the art we create. It is in these creative moments that we are able to inspire others to create from what inspires them most.
Do you have someone who truly inspires you? Do you ever wonder where they get their inspiration from? In an upcoming post I will share some insight on what I think is inspiring. And it may just surprise you! Be sure to subscribe to this blog so you don't miss a thing! And again, thanks for following me on this journey down "216 Alchemy Lane" where inspiration's only a blog away! Take care everyone! ~🖤Sheila
